Frequently asked questions

Non-custodial wallet · 11 chains · 0.25-0.35% swap

Straight answers about how iCrypto works: who holds your keys, how recovery works, which chains and tokens are supported, what the swap costs, and what happens if this site ever goes away. If a question is not covered here, the guides go into more depth.

Basics

What is iCrypto?

iCrypto is a non-custodial, multi-chain crypto wallet that runs in your web browser. It lets you hold, send and receive crypto across eleven blockchains and swap tokens directly from your own wallet. There is no account and no sign-up: the wallet itself is your identity.

Do I need an account or to sign up?

No. iCrypto has no accounts, no sign-up and no log-in. You create a wallet locally in your browser and that wallet is all you need. There is nothing to register and no password held on a server.

Does iCrypto require KYC or identity verification?

No. iCrypto does not ask for your name, email, phone number or any identity documents. There is no KYC or AML onboarding to use the wallet, because iCrypto never takes custody of your funds.

What does non-custodial mean?

Non-custodial means you, and only you, control your funds. Your private keys are generated and stored in your own browser, derived from your recovery phrase. iCrypto never holds your keys or your funds and cannot move, freeze or access them.

Keys, recovery & security

Where are my private keys stored?

Your private keys are generated and stored locally in your own browser, derived from your recovery phrase. They are never sent to iCrypto. Because no server holds your keys, there is nothing for iCrypto to lose or leak.

Is iCrypto safe to use?

iCrypto is non-custodial, so it never holds your keys or funds, which removes the custodial honeypot risk. Your security then depends on protecting your recovery phrase and the device you use: keep the phrase offline, never share it, and be alert to phishing. iCrypto is open source, so anyone can inspect exactly what the code does.

What is a recovery phrase (seed phrase)?

A recovery phrase is the list of words generated when you create your wallet. All of your private keys are derived from it. Anyone who has the phrase has full control of the funds, so write it down, store it offline and never enter it anywhere except a wallet you trust.

How does wallet recovery work?

Because your keys are derived from your recovery phrase, you restore your wallet by entering that phrase. Enter it into iCrypto, or into any compatible wallet, and the same keys and addresses are regenerated, giving you access to your funds. Recovery does not depend on any iCrypto server.

What happens if I lose my recovery phrase?

If you lose your recovery phrase and have no other backup of it, no one can recover your funds: not iCrypto, not anyone. That is the trade-off of holding your own keys. Make a secure, offline backup of the phrase the moment you create your wallet.

Chains, tokens & swaps

Which blockchains does iCrypto support?

iCrypto supports eleven blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum and Avalanche, alongside further EVM-compatible networks. You manage assets across all of them from a single wallet.

Which tokens can I hold?

Alongside the native coin of each supported chain, iCrypto handles ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum and compatible EVM chains and BEP-20 tokens on BNB Smart Chain. You can also add custom tokens by their contract address.

How do I add a custom token?

If a token is not shown by default, add it using its contract address on the relevant chain. iCrypto reads the token's details from the contract and displays your balance. Always confirm the contract address from a trustworthy source before adding it, as scam tokens can copy real names.

How does the built-in swap work?

iCrypto has a built-in swap powered by the 0x DEX aggregator. 0x routes your trade across decentralised liquidity to find a competitive price, and the swap executes directly from your own wallet. Your funds never pass through iCrypto.

How do I make a swap?

Open the swap screen, choose the token you are selling and the token you want, and enter an amount. iCrypto shows the quote from 0x. Confirm the transaction and it is signed with your keys and broadcast on-chain directly from your wallet.

Fees & how iCrypto works

What fees does iCrypto charge?

iCrypto charges a 0.25-0.35% fee on swaps. The 0x aggregator that routes the trade charges its own fee on top, currently half of ours, so the all-in cost is roughly 1.5x the iCrypto rate. You also pay the ordinary network (gas) fee for the blockchain you are transacting on, which goes to the network, not to iCrypto. Every charge is shown on the quote before you sign. Holding, sending and receiving crypto carry only the network's own gas fee.

How does iCrypto make money?

iCrypto's revenue is the 0.25-0.35% swap fee. There are no subscriptions, no custody fees and no charge for creating a wallet or holding assets. Because iCrypto is non-custodial, it does not earn from holding or lending your funds.

Getting started, apps & independence

How do I create a wallet?

Open icrypto.money and choose to create a wallet. iCrypto generates a recovery phrase in your browser: write it down and store it offline. Confirm the phrase and your wallet is ready. No email, password or personal details are required.

Create a wallet

Is there a mobile app? Does it work on phones?

iCrypto runs in the browser, so it works on phones, tablets and desktops without installing a separate app. Open icrypto.money in your mobile browser and create or restore your wallet the same way you would on a computer.

Is iCrypto open source?

Yes. iCrypto is open source under the MIT licence. Anyone can read the full source code, audit how keys are handled, and see exactly what the app does before trusting it with funds.

Can I verify the build myself?

Yes. iCrypto uses reproducible builds. With Node 22 or newer you can run npm ci and npm run build:mainnet to build the app from source and confirm it matches what is served, so you never have to take the hosted version on trust.

What happens if icrypto.money goes offline?

Your funds are on the blockchain and your keys come from your recovery phrase, so they do not depend on iCrypto being online. If the site is ever unreachable, import your recovery phrase into any compatible wallet and you keep full access to your funds.

What is the status.json kill-switch?

iCrypto checks a published status file, status.json, when it loads. It can be used to show a notice or pause features such as swaps if a problem is detected. It cannot touch your keys or funds: those stay in your control and remain recoverable from your phrase in any compatible wallet.

Crypto assets are volatile and largely unregulated. You are solely responsible for your keys and funds. Nothing here is financial advice.
